- At the centre of Graben stands the Pestsäule (Plague Column), also known as the Dreifaltigkeitssäule (Trinity Column).
- In 1679, between 75,000 and 150,000 citizens of Vienna fell victim to the devastating plague epidemic. Once the crisis was finally over, Emperor Leopold I decided to have a memorial built to remember those who were lost.
- A distinguished group of sculptors and architects set to work on this monument that was finally inaugurated in 1693.
- The gilded sculpture group at the top represents the Holy Trinity, seated on a cloud.
- The whole monument is covered with a net.
