Ahirkapi Lighthouse was built in 1857 (station established 1755). The lighthouse has a focal plane of 36 m (118ft). It is a 26 m (85ft) round stone tower with lantern and gallery, attached to a one-story stone keeper's house. Lighthouse is painted white with one narrow black horizontal band.
This lighthouse stands on the west side of the entrance to the Bosphorus from the Sea of Marmara. Sultan Osman III ordered a lighthouse built here in 1755 after witnessing the rescue of seamen from a wrecked galleon.
