- Main armament: 122mm Rifled gun, model D-25T.
- Designed as an improved IS-2, the IS-4 was lengthened, had increased armour and an improved engine. Its engine cooling system was influenced by the German Panzer V ‘Panther’. It entered service in 1947 but was found to have disappointing speed and mobility. Production was cancelled in 1949 and the type was finally withdrawn from service and scrapped in the early 1960’s.
- This is the only surviving example and is on display in what is best known as Hall1 of the Kubinka Tank Museum, although its official title is now Pavilion 1 in Area 2 of the Park Patriot museum.
