- The Royal Palace in Amsterdam is one of three palaces in the Netherlands which are at the disposal of the monarch.
- In the Golden Age it was built as the city hall of Amsterdam, transformed to a Palace in 1808 by King Louis Napoleon and in use by the Dutch Royal House from 1813.
- It is used for Royal Events like reception of the foreign heads of state during their visits in The Netherlands, the King's New Year reception and other official receptions. Every year, it provides the setting for the presentation of various official and royal prizes.
